Nominations for Niwano Peace Prize 2015 will open soon
The Niwano Peace Foundation established the Niwano Peace Prize to honor and encourage those who are devoting themselves to interreligious cooperation in the cause of peace. The prize is awarded annually to a living individual or an organization that is making a significant contribution to world peace through promoting, inter-religious cooperation. The recipient will be awarded a main prize at the presentation ceremony to be held in May.
The Foundation hopes that this prize will further promote interreligious cooperation for peace and lead to the emergence of ever more people devoting themselves to this cause.
Nature of Award
- A certificate
- A gold Medal
- Monetary prize (20,000,000 yen)
Recipients of Niwano Peace Prize
- Rosalina Tuyuc Velásquez, a human rights activist and leader in Guatemala.
- Sulak Sivaraksa who has worked as a teacher, scholar, publisher, activist, and is a founder of many organizations in Thailand.
- Ela Ramesh Bhatt recognized as one of the world’s most remarkable pioneers and entrepreneurial forces in grassroots development in India.
- Acholi Religious Leaders’ Peace Initiative, an organization promoting peace in northern Uganda.
Eligibility Criteria
- Applicants irrespective of the nationality can be nominated renowned religious leaders of international stature.
