With sports emerging as an important medium of social change, Nike and Ashoka’s Changemakers have announced a new compeition called “Changing Lives through Football” building upon the success of two earlier and similar competition organised by them (the “Sport for a Better World” and “GameChangers: Change the Game for Women in Sport” competitions).
Individuals and organizations around the world using football as a means for social change can submit their projects or ideas as entries for the competition. Projects or ideas should render innovative solutions where the community is strengthened, development is accelerated and social change is driven through the use of football. All entries should demonstrate the key components of the typical Changemakers’ competitions: innovation, social impact and sustainability.
The finalist individual or organization receiving the most votes in the competition will receive the Grand Prize Winner with an award of $30,000. The second place will get the award of $20,000 and the third place $10,000.
There are four main phases in the competition:
Entry Stage, March 24 – June 11, 2010: Entries can be submitted until 5PM US EST on April 21, 2010, and throughout this stage anyone can participate in an online review discussion with the entrants.
Online Review and Judging, June 11 – July 20, 2010: Online review and discussion continues. Simultaneously, a panel of expert judges and a team of Ashoka staff select the competition finalists.
