CVC/COIN (Caribbean Vulnerable Communities Coalition) is currently accepting proposals for a small awards program designed to increase the evidence base in community-based HIV/AIDS research. The small awards are intended to support primary and secondary data analysis and data use activities based on research findings. Selected applicants are expected to produce a publishable manuscript and complete a data use activity.

Programme Objectives
- To build research capacity among local agencies;
- To address research gaps in relation to current community grantees of model programs addressing HIV/AIDS;
- To provide opportunities for the data to be disseminated to and used by local stakeholders for informed decision making.
- To strengthen the M&E component of current model programmes being developed and better evidence results.
Grants
The base amount for a small award is between US$15,000-25,000 which is intended to cover basic research expenses for a 6 month timeline.
Eligibility Criteria
- Eligible candidates include NGOs and CBOs who have been awarded a CVC/COIN grant in phase 1 or 2 of the Vulnerabilised Groups component of the PANCAP R9 Global Fund Grant.
- Past and present grantees are encouraged to partner with local academic institutions or centers, non-profit and for-profit research organizations, parastatal organizations and research-focused NGOs.
- Eligible proposals should be comprised of a team of at least three people, submitted on behalf of a grantee NGO or CBO. The team should have previous research experience, preferably in HIV/AIDS specifically, or community health in general.
Application Process
To apply, please submit the following in English:
- brief cover letter
- concept paper (3-4 pages) clearly summarizing the background/context,
- research questions, scope of analysis, description of dataset and proposed
- data use activities;
- detailed budget by line item (e.g., fees, travel, etc.); and
- curriculum vitae of key research team
All candidates will be notified by May 17th, 2015. Selected candidates will then work with the research consultant and technical team at COIN/CVC to prepare a detailed research proposal.
