The Public Affairs Section of the U.S. Embassy in Bangkok Thailand invites grant proposals of up to $250,000 to develop and manage a four-day workshop on the theme of education as part of President Obama’s Young Southeast Asian Leaders Initiative (YSEALI). The initiative aims to bring together young Southeast Asian leaders to help them work across ASEAN borders to solve common issues including economic development, education, environmental protection, and civic engagement.
This workshop will bring together a minimum of 60 young leaders (ages 18-30) from all ten member countries of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN). The length of grant will be for one year with an expected date of December 13-16, 2015. By the end of the workshop, participants should:
- Be familiar with tools and techniques to develop critical thinking skills, and get first-hand knowledge using those tools.
- Understand the importance of developing and using critical thinking skills to address global challenges.
- Identify the skills and abilities associated with a 21st century ASEAN labor force, including such skills as communicative English, vocational skills, versatility, creativity, analytical thinking, cross-cultural skills, etc., and be able to develop a proposal to improve one or more of these skills in their home country or community.
Eligible Countries
Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Laos, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam
Eligibility Criteria
U.S. and local NGOs from above mentioned countries are eligible to submit proposals that addresses the following criteria:
- Design and implement a four-day workshop. (Flight schedules may require an additional day both before and after the workshop to accommodate participant travel.)
- Manage the travel and lodging logistics for all participants, speakers, and workshop staff. Proposals must include cost of transportation, visas, travel insurance, and lodging.
- Organize and implement concrete follow-on activities for participants to implement skill-building for one of the skills identified as relevant during the workshop.
- Design a digital engagement strategy for workshop participants which enhance the in-person training and coordinate closely with YSEALI website and social media account managers.
- Design and implement a method of sharing key aspects of the workshop with YSEALI members who are not able to attend the workshop in person. Examples include offering online versions of workshop video, hand-outs or similar materials.
How to Apply
Complete proposals must be submitted by email. The proposal should include all of the following:
- Application for Federal Assistance Cover Sheet;
- Description of the work to be performed;
- Information about the team of people who would execute the work;
- Management plan for the work;
- Schedule of work;
- Detailed budget (keeping administrative costs as low as practicable);
- Information about any proposed sub-awardee partners that will assist in organizing this event in Thailand, if appropriate;
- Description of prior experience in youth-oriented programming; and
- Description of experience in and/or ties with organizations in Thailand or other Southeast Asian countries.
