The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) is currently accepting applications from the eligible applicants for the post of Communications Specialist based in Almaty, Kazakhstan.
The Communications Specialist is responsible in the first instance for designing, organising and delivering market development, awareness-raising and visibility events in the country, writing communications materials (published, online and through social media) and for promoting both the programme specifically and the value of external business advice more widely.

Key Job Responsibilities
The Communications Specialist will perform the following functions-
- Proactively design, implement and evaluate market development, including awareness raising, and visibilities activities, acting as the focal point for coordinating these activities.
- Together with the National Programme Manager, develop and implement a public relations (PR) strategy for the country, ensuring that all activities are in line with EBRD communications policies and donor priorities and visibility requirements for the programme.
- Develop and manage relationships with local press, including preparing press releases, press kits, coordinating press conferences and pursuing opportunities for targeted and regular representation in national and regional press.
- Identify, research and draft copy for case studies of successful projects and initiatives to disseminate best practices and amplify the demonstration effect of SBS activities in the country.
- Prepare quarterly newsletters and other information materials as necessary for external distribution to stakeholders and partners so they are informed about SBS activities in the country.
- Monitor local media for coverage of the programme and key issues relating to the SME and consultancy sectors in the country.
- Ensure up to date information on the local language website pages and local language social media platforms and regularly supply content for centrally (HQ) managed communications activities.
- Act as focal point for the localisation of materials developed centrally (in HQ) into local language and for adapting them to the local context; ensure marketing, communications and visibility of SBS activities in a country are aligned with EBRDs broader marketing, communications and visibility efforts in the same country.
- Contribute to the development of internal and donor reports in partnership with the SBS HQ team to inform donors on the progress of activities and utilisation of funding.
Eligibility Criteria
- Applicants must have-
- Bachelors degree (Business administration, Marketing, Communications, Journalism, other related field etc.) and/or equivalent communications/public relations experience
- Relevant professional experience, preferably from a professional news, public relations or marketing field.
- Knowledge of local business environment and consultancy market.
- Knowledge of event management.
- Knowledge of donor funded work, donor organisations and national stakeholders such as regional development agencies, chambers of commerce & industry and other SME support organisations desirable.
- Other skills-
- Strong writing skills; experience in writing for members of the public and donors, and of altering tone for audience and platform (web, social media, publications).
- Effective communication, presentation and collaboration skills and ability to manage relations with press, clients, consultants, donors and stakeholders.
- Strong numerical and analytical skills, understanding of enterprise financials desirable.
- Strong event management and organisational skills.
- Fluency in English, both written and verbal. Fluency in language of country of operations.
- Computer literate: excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office including Excel and Power Point; knowledge of design programmes such as InDesign and Corel Draw an advantage.
