The Network of International Development Organisations in Scotland (NIDOS) is currently seeking applications from the eligible applicants for the post of Chief Executive based in Edinburg, Scotland.
The NIDOS Chief Executive is responsible for ensuring the development of NIDOS’s long-term direction and for the development of its role as an influential and effective organisation, as well as for the operational management of the organisation.
With more than one hundred member organisations working to tackle poverty and inequality around the world, NIDOS is the network that unites the international development sector in Scotland.
Key Job Responsibilities
The Chief Executive will perform the following functions-
- Managing Strategy
- Ensure strategic and operational plans are created, agreed, implemented and evaluated.
- Ensure internal and external consultations and promotion of strategic and operational plans.
- Managing Operational Delivery
- Oversee development and delivery of NIDOS’s effectiveness and fundraising programme;
- Oversee development and delivery of NIDOS’s networking and collaboration programme, including support for the NIDOS Business Forum;
- Oversee development and delivery of NIDOS’s policy and information programme.
- Member Engagement and Consultation
- Oversee the growth and development of the NIDOS membership and network to increase its representation
- Partnership and Stakeholder relationships
- Develop positive working relationships with key stakeholders including the Scottish Government, the Department for International Development, the academic sector, diasporan communities, southern partners and others with an interest in international development and international relations
- Represent NIDOS externally at events, with the media and key decision makers
- Build opportunities for NIDOS members to engage with these stakeholders and partners.
- Governance and management
- Line manage staff and ensure they are supported and motivated to deliver well;
- Ensure the development and implementation of appropriate organisational policies;
- Oversee the preparation and monitoring of NIDOS’ annual budget and financial position;
- Develop NIDOS’s funding strategy
- Liaise with Scottish Government as core funder to deliver on contractual agreements, ensure timely reporting outlining progress against objectives and financial spend, and arranging quarterly networking meetings with the NIDOS Board
- Liaise with other funders to deliver on contractual agreements, ensure timely reporting outlining progress against objectives and financial spend
- Develop and manage organisational monitoring and evaluation systems;
- Liaise with NIDOS Chair and NIDOS Board to develop good governance of NIDOS;
- Report to the Board and work with the subcommittees of the Board.
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must have-
- Demonstrable commitment to international development / global justice;
- Demonstrable strong management experience, including managing staff, financial management and experience of working with a management board;
- Excellent leadership competencies to motivate and negotiate, both internally and externally;
- Demonstrable record of achievement in securing funding, including building relationships with, and reporting to, funders;
- Demonstrable planning skills and ability to think strategically;
- Excellent written communication skills;
- Ability to represent NIDOS within the international development, government, public and business sectors, as appropriate;
- Experience of working in a network or member organisation.
- Demonstrable experience of networks and/or networking with a range of organisations;
- Knowledge of the current debates in international development;
- Experience in working with the media or within the private sector;
- Paid work experience in international development is not essential but transferable skills and alternative experience of global justice and international development issues are of interest.
