Deadline: 14 August 2015
Canada Fund for Local Initiatives (CFLI) at the High Commission of Canada in Pretoria, South Africa is now accepting applications from NGOs in 5 countries of South Africa, Lesotho, Namibia, Madagascar and Mauritius.
The Canada Fund for Local Initiatives (CFLI) is a responsive, flexible program, managed by the High Commission of Canada in Pretoria. CFLI funds small but visible, high impact, results-oriented projects which are proposed and implemented by local NGOs and other grassroots organizations such as village councils, cooperatives and women’s groups. This enables Canada to respond to local needs by working at the community level. Equally important, the CFLI serves to strengthen Canada’s relationships with civil society and local communities and to build networks of contacts in countries around the world.
Projects must address the identified needs of local communities in one of the following countries: South Africa, Lesotho, Namibia, Madagascar and Mauritius.
Projects must fall within one of the 2015-2016 CFLI priorities:
- Preventing sexual and gender based violence;
- Protecting human rights and fundamental freedoms, with a focus on women’s rights or migrants’ rights;
- Supporting democratic transition and expanded democratic participation, particularly by women and minority groups;
- Entrenching the rule of law and combatting the destabilizing impact of crime and corruption, including through security sector capacity building;
- Strengthening economic governance, including building free markets and an effective enabling environment for business;
- Preventing child, early and forced marriage (CEFM);
- Protecting religious freedom.
- Emphasis will be placed on accountable and sustainable projects that foster capacity-building and community development.
The Canada Fund only provides contributions for project related expenses covered by a contribution agreement. The Canada Fund does not cover over-head costs such as those related to the administration of an organization, ongoing or recurring projects, large-scale construction, or general budgetary needs.
