Royal Agriculture Society of NSW (RAS) is seeking applications for its JB Fairfax Award for Rural Journalism in Australia to encourage university students to pursue a career in rural journalism upon graduation.

Award Information
- The Award includes a scholarship of up to $10,000.
- A practical work experience at Rural Press and the Sydney Royal Easter Show will also be provided.
Eligibility Criteria
The applicant must:
- Be enrolled to study in any undergraduate or postgraduate degree of relevance to rural affairs at an approved Australian education provider.
- Submit a Feature article on one of the following topics:
- How should farmers mitigate against the drought?
- How should we make Canberra politicians more involved in rural and regional policies?
- Is agriculture secure, through quarantine, of imported pests and diseases?
- The feature article must be up to 1,200 words, be written to publication standard and includes a minimum of four information sources.
- Submit a News article or Blog Post: write a strong news article or blog post relating to Australian agriculture, of up to 600 words. Please include a minimum of three sources including one primary producer. The article must be original and not previously published.
- Demonstrate an active interest in rural affairs and in pursuing a career in rural journalism upon graduation.
- Be an Australian citizen or permanent resident.
- Be aged 30 years or under.
