The Universal Postal Union (UPU) is currently accepting applications from the eligible applicants for the post of System & Network Administrator, based in Bern, Switzerland.
UPU, a specialized agency of the United Nations, is the primary forum for cooperation between postal sector players. It helps to ensure a truly universal network of up-to-date products and services.
Key Job Responsibilities
The System & Network Administrator will perform the following functions-
- Performs administration of computer systems and networks throughout the Postal Technology Centre (PTC)
- Develops and updates computer applications
- Provides IT support
- Production servers
- Test and development servers
- Workstations for Development and Operations staff
- Networks and connections
- PTC servers (including application servers, file servers, database servers and web servers)
- Analyzes the usage and reliability of network resources
- Monitors critical functions and logs in order to anticipate problems
- Takes proactive measures to ensure good service delivery
- Maintains and manages PTC computer, server and application updates
- Maintains and updates Operations services
- Performs network troubleshooting to detect common network problems
- Works closely with the support team to handle complex network problems
- Provides technical support, training and installation of new hardware and software to staff
- Provides support to the PTC technical team regarding system and network problems
- Creates and maintains Standard Operational procedures related to Operations services
- Prepares and maintains Operations records and reports (training documentation, equipment inventory, licenses, work orders, etc.).
- Collaborates to identify and maintain a set of best practices for incident management and service monitoring.
Eligibility Criteria
- Applicants must have-
- First-level university degree in Computer Science, Engineering or related field or equivalent professional experience
- At least 3 year’s experience working as an IT specialist
- Experience working in an international environment would be an advantage
- Knowledge of VMware or Citrix
- Knowledge of EMC storage would be an advantage
- Knowledge of Microsoft product, in particular Active Directory, SCCM
- Network and firewall administration knowledge would be an advantage
- Database administration (MSSQL) would be an advantage
- Splunk, scripting (PS), Manage Engine Operations Manager, Check Point, Brocade, Apache Tomcat/ Jboss, Linux Operating systems would be an advantage
- Proficiency in English. French would be an advantage.
