The United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS) is currently seeking applications from the eligible applicants for the post of Training Specialist based in Nairobi, Kenya.
UNOPS mission is to serve people in need by expanding the ability of the United Nations, governments and other partners to manage projects, infrastructure and procurement in a sustainable and efficient manner.
Key Job Responsibilities
The Training Specialist will perform the following functions-
- Develop the project overview and training plan(s) for the Project, with clear procedural objectives and resource allocation plans, to meet the objective of the Project and ensure capacity development of MOH personnel in the Counties.
- Manage the Training Events to ensure adequate training for the various stakeholders in the Counties including MOH personnel, community groups, individuals such as mothers and fathers, other government authorities to complete tasks including, but not limited to:
- Maternal Health Care,
- Maintenance of Health Facilities including Green Technology requirements and
- Capacity Building of the MOH in the Counties
- Develop budgetary forecasts in line with resource allocation plans, including staff and training needs to ensure appropriate programme implementation.
- Prepare substantive review of MOH capacity and establish appropriate training programme and plan for capacity building of MOH stakeholders.
- Manage and support UNOPS training staff (Training Coordinator and Training Assistants).
- Ensure UNOPS staff duties and administrative actions are implemented and coordinated with the other project components (infrastructure development, M&E, Green Technology, procurement and logistics etc.).
- Liaise with other training providers responsible for other related specialized areas that may benefit and compliment this Project e.g. pediatric HIV/AIDS, OPTIONS, LSTM etc.
- Incorporate lessons learnt into the improvement of the training curriculum and capacity building initiatives.
- Screen and review work of UNOPS Training Project Staff and capacity of MOH.
- Manage mentor capacity for the UNOPS Project Staff as required to better perform their job in the Project.
- Review impacts, monitor development and evaluate approaches in line with curriculum and training plans.
- Develop and provide guidance for new capacity building initiatives for MOH in the Counties.
- Produce regular, timely and accurate reports on the training component and capacity building efforts.
- Coordinate activities with Project Training team, ensuring proper communication and knowledge sharing.
- The Training Specialist will need to perform any other related tasks suited to their position and as instructed by the UNOPS Project Manager for implementation of the training component of the Project.
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must have-
- Advanced University Degree (Master’s) in Public Health, Education, HR management, Business Administration or related field, or University Degree (Bachelor’s / first level) with a combination of 2 additional years of relevant professional experience in Public Health, Education, HR management, Business Administration or related field, may be accepted in lieu of the advance university degree
- At least 10 years’ experience working in a similar role as a Training Specialist or Training Manager position.
- Working in international context for developing training strategies and training programs in the Health sector will be an added advantage.
- Proficiency in MS office, Knowledge of Public Health, Maternal Care, Child Care, Family Planning, Immunization, NRHM, Government Health Schemes, Training Strategy, Plan and evaluation etc.
- Fluency in written and spoken English is essential; working knowledge of additional UN or regional languages is considered an asset.
