The Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC) is currently seeking applications from the eligible applicants for the post of China Fisheries Policy Analyst in Beijing, China. The duration for the post is of 2 years.
The China Fisheries Policy Analyst’s work will include supporting the strengthening of China’s fisheries law, working with key officials, academic institutions, NGOs and scientists, and helping to build the capacity and engagement of Chinese NGOs and academics.

Key Jobs Responsibilities
The China Fisheries Policy Analyst will perform the following functions-
- Develop expertise on China’s Fisheries Law, regulations and practices and advise on opportunities to strengthen the Fisheries Law and its implementation.
- Meet regularly with government officials and legislators to provide.
- NRDC’s perspective on fisheries management issues, including possible changes to the Fisheries Law.
- Organize workshops in China including on issues concerning fisheries monitoring and compliance and on catch limits and rebuilding.
- Research and write reports for NRDC analyzing Chinese fisheries management law, policies, and practices.
- Attend relevant meetings and conferences.
- Support consultants hired in China, including: helping monitor progress of reports; assisting consultants’ work, as needed; tracking consultants’ expenses; and arranging meetings between consultants and US-staff.
- Write fact sheets and other materials in Chinese; translate documents from Chinese to English and from English to Chinese, as needed.
- Identify local NGOs and develop strong working relationships with them as to increase their capacity and engagement in sustainable fisheries management issues.
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must have-
- Advanced degree in a relevant field such as law, economics, natural resources management or ecology.
- Track record of effective conservation work.
- Knowledge of fisheries management issues a plus.
- Previous experience working with Chinese agencies, such as fishery and ocean management agencies, a plus.
- Ability to communicate effectively with various stakeholders (government, non-government, scientists, industry).
- Strong research and writing skills.
- Fluency in both Chinese and English, with excellent English oral and written skills.
- Excellent public speaking skills.
- Ability to work well with minimal direct supervision; and.
- Flexibility in taking international calls at odd hours.
