United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) is currently seeking applications from the eligible applicants for the post of Local Security Associate in Bujumbura, Burundi.
The Local Security Associate is responsible for assisting the SA or its nominee in the exercise of his responsibilities assigned to the duty station.
UNDP helps to achieve the eradication of poverty, and the reduction of inequalities and exclusion.
Key Jobs Responsibilities
The Local Security Associate will perform the following functions-
- Assists the Safety Advisor (SA) or the Security Coordinator in the field (FSCO) in the collection, updating and sharing of information related to the security situation in the country.
- Assists in maintaining the SA-date security plan, including the list of UN staff.
- SA assists the evaluation of Minimum Operating Security Standards (MOSS) to the place of employment.
- Attends reports of security incidents that have affected staff, offices and other UN materials.
- Organizes and provides training on security awareness and preparedness.
- Attends the implementation of safety Residences (Minimum Residential Security Standards Operation-MOSS), security offices and the safe preparation.
- Provides general administrative support to SA / FSCO.
- Liaise and coordinate with organizations or personal security of the host government, including local government, police and military bodies, and non-state actors in the operation area of the holder.
- Helps evaluate the security situation at the duty station and collects and proper verification of safety information that may be necessary for the evaluation of the security situation by the SA / FSCO.
- Communicates safety information to the head of the UN agencies offices, and transmits the security advice of the host country in the absence of UNDSS SA, as applicable.
- The heads of United Nations agencies and provides advice on national security to UNDSS.
- Maintains regular contact with security agencies focal points of United Nations agencies Security.
- Provided technical assistance for the SMT meetings sessions in the absence of SA / FSCO.
- Assisting in the preparation and review of the United Nations Security Plan.
- Supports actions related to the implementation of Security Plan.
- Administers the system of identification and badge management / UN identity card.
- Liaise with commercial companies used for the safety of United Nations offices and residences to ensure the efficient use of security guards.
- Ensures the duty officer positions within the Security Section, if necessary.
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must have-
- Diploma of secondary education.
- A university degree or equivalent in political science, military studies, safety management or a related field is desirable but not required.
- 6 years experience in the security field, in the military or judiciary or in the safe work area.
- Previous experience in the United Nations or an international organization is desirable but not required.
- Strong background in IT (MS Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint).
- Mastering the French language is required.
- A working knowledge of English or Kirundi is desirable but not required.
- Knowledge and experience in the use of HF and VHF radios.
- Knowledge of the security measures of the host country.
- A valid driver’s license and be able to drive the vehicles 4 x 4.
- Ability to travel frequently.
