Banks not only give loans for development projects around the world, but also give free and flexible grants to NGOs and other charitable organisations serving their communities. Many international banks have full-fledged corporate philanthropy programs to financially support community welfare projects in poor and developing countries. In fact, some of these banks have also set up independent foundations that handle disbursement of grants to NGOs.
Examples include – The Rabo Bank Foundation works to improve “the lives of the underprivileged and disadvantages groups of people in developing countries by providing them with the opportunity to live full and independent lives.”
Triodos is the UK’s leading bank for social enterprise, and a fast-growing force within the charities sector. Barclays Bank- Working for Young Futures in six countries – Brazil, Egypt, India, Pakistan, Uganda and Zambia. The list of such Banks is big.
