Applicants are invited for New Zealand Regional Development Scholarships (NZRDS) funded by the New Zealand Government’s international aid and development programme. They are managed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade.
The purpose of the New Zealand Regional Development Scholarships (NZRDS) is for Pacific island candidates to gain knowledge and skills in specific subject areas that will assist in the development of their home country. Awardees are required to return to their home country for at least two years after the completion of their scholarship to apply these new skills and knowledge in government, civil society or private business organisations.
Scholarships for both undergraduate and postgraduate study at a Pacific based tertiary institution, available to candidates from specific countries in the Pacific region.
Eligible Countries: Cook Islands, Kiribati, Niue, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Tonga, Tuvalu, Vanuatu
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants from all eligible countries must meet the following conditions to be eligible for a New Zealand Regional Development Scholarships. Applicant
- must be at least 18 years old at the time he/she start the scholarship.
- The country applicant is living in is in the list of eligible countries.
- is a citizen of the country he/she is living in.
- have been living in this country for at least the last two years (unless you are a member of the diplomatic corps or a dependent of a member of the diplomatic corps).
- must confirm that he/she is not currently serving in the military.
- want to study in New Zealand or in the Pacific and applicant from Kiribati, Niue, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Tonga, Tuvalu or Vanuatu.
- want to study at a level that is listed as available for his/her country for the scholarship that he/she is applying for.
- is expected to meet Immigration requirements for a student visa to New Zealand or the Pacific country he/she will study in.
- is expected to meet the academic entry requirements (including English language ability) to get into his/her preferred programme of study.
- should confirm that he/she have not been previously terminated from a New Zealand Government Scholarship because of poor academic performance or personal conduct.
- can demonstrate that the study he/she want to do will enable him/her to contribute to the sustainable development of his/her home country.
- should be committed to return to his/her country for a minimum of two years at the end of his/her scholarship to contribute to his/her country’s development.
- should have at least two years of work experience (part time or full time, paid or voluntary) unless he/she is applying straight from school or during his/her first year of tertiary study (for countries offered undergraduate study)
