Open Society Foundations (OSF) is currently seeking applications from the eligible applicants for the post of Program Officer in New York, United States.
The Program Officer will be responsible for engaging with fields of interest to OSF, developing appropriate strategies and tools for fostering desired social change, while also developing and managing relationships with other entities including potential and current grantees.
The OSF works to build vibrant and tolerant democracies whose governments are accountable and open to the participation of all people.
Key Jobs Responsibilities
The Program Officer will perform the following functions-
- Play a lead role in developing the Project’s grant-making priorities, application and selection practices, and network programming as these relate to the program’s current review process.
- Participate in assessing and evaluating the effectiveness of the Project’s newly defined strategy goals and programs.
- Participate in the development of overall program strategy and conduct research to support program design.
- Identify emerging trends and projects across OSF regions, particularly in regions where DPP is not as familiar or present.
- Conduct the necessary research and outreach required to identify potential grantee organizations and/or network models, and oversee any related consultancies.
- Review grant proposals and write grant recommendations as part of the grant approval process.
- Provide relevant analysis and feedback to grantees in order to develop and finalize grant proposals.
- Monitor grants and maintain regular contact with grantees, contractors and other stakeholders.
- Analyze financial and budget information of grantees and also assist in the planning and development and monitoring of DPP’s budget.
- Keep up to date on current thinking and new developments in photography, the art and social justice field, media/visual storytelling, and the arts and culture philanthropic sector.
- Conduct and organize meaningful site visits that are as equally helpful to the grantee partners as they are to DPP.
- Interact with Open Society’s operational departments and manage internal processes to achieve program goals and to advance organizational objectives.
- Frequent travel required.
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must have-
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field of study or equivalent experience/education.
- 7 -10 years of progressively responsible experience in a relevant field, preferably in the field of documentary photography, socially engaged art, visual media, and/or social justice philanthropy.
- Demonstrated experience and effectiveness in cross-cultural settings; fluency in a foreign language such as Spanish, French, Arabic, or Portuguese a plus.
- High emotional intelligence, humility and empathy; excellent inter-personal skills, with the diplomatic demeanor and political astuteness necessary to represent a global organization.
- Prior experience with strategy development and implementation.
- An understanding of the structure and workings of both formal and informal organizations, networks, and individuals working in related photography, media, philanthropic, and/or art and social justice institutions.
- Ability to build collaborative relationships – within OSF, peer foundations, and with grant seekers and grantees, and others in the field – to further programmatic goals.
- Ability to organize and balance workload under deadlines and multiple commitments.
- Commitment to a culture of learning and continual improvement, contributing to peer learning, reflection, evaluation and assessment of results.
- Strong organizational, analytical and critical thinking skills.
- Excellent written and spoken communication skills in English.
