Open Society Foundations (OSF) is currently seeking applications from the eligible applicants for the post of Communications Specialist in London, United Kingdom.
The Communications Specialist will be responsible for identifying and pursuing media opportunities, drafting and editing all forms of content from blogs to op-eds, and working collaboratively with the programs to develop communications strategies and projects.
The OSF works to build vibrant and tolerant democracies whose governments are accountable and open to the participation of all people.
Key Jobs Responsibilities
The Communications Specialist will perform the following functions-
- Assist with the coordination and implementation of communications strategies for the Open Society Foundations and the advancement of its goals through media, publications, and digital.
- Build relationships with journalists, identify and pitch stories, respond to press inquiries, help with media training, evaluate and improve media outreach efforts.
- Draft, edit, and distribute different written materials including press releases, op-eds, blogs, briefing papers, brochures, speeches, website copy.
- Manage website content and other digital tools including social media.
- Support and facilitate communications workshops and training with grantees and other stakeholders.
- Travel will be required.
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must have-
- Strong media experience, ability to find media opportunities in different international media markets and be comfortable pitching stories on a regular basis.
- Excellent writing skills, ability to turn around content under tight deadlines and confident interpersonal skills with diverse audiences.
- Bachelor’s degree and at least four years of progressive, relevant professional experience.
- Foreign language skills (particularly French / German / Spanish / Italian) preferred.
- Strong understanding of cultural differences and the proven ability to build and maintain relationships with a wide range of people from diverse backgrounds within a complex organization.
- Knowledge of emerging trends, best practices, key media organizations and networks active in the field relevant to media and communications.
- Experience in a communications role working in a medium to large sized organization (public, private or third sector) in a multi-issue, fast paced environment.
- Demonstrated practical experience in digital communications; strong understanding of social media.
- Ability to work both independently and with others; integrity, professional discretion and ability to handle confidential matters.
