The YaLa Academy’s Aileen Getty School of Citizen Journalism invites the leading journalists and new media experts from the Middle Eastern and African region for its 4 months training program in basic journalism techniques, photo- and video-journalism and 21st Century activism.
This online program is a unique combination of new media training and peacebuilding experience. In regions where media is too often a tool for nationalism, division and fear, YaLa citizen journalists are being empowered to express themselves and tell a very different kind of story.
Priority Areas
The YaLa Citizen Journalism Program trains the incumbents on:
- Journalism 101’, with a focus on interviewing skills, ethical issues and journalistic writing and editing;
- Photo- and video-journalism, with a focus on photo and video editing tools and photo- and video-journalism techniques;
- Social Media and Mobile Activism, with a focus on best practices for mobile activism and how to leverage social media outlets like Facebook, Twitter, Google+, Instagram, YouTube, as well as YaLa Press and other blog platforms.
Through online lectures, discussions, assignments and activities, YaLa Citizen Journalists learn how to leverage new media tools to spread their voices on the issues that matter to them most.
Eligibility Criteria
The program invites the young people from the MENA region aged 17-36 years.
