United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) is currently seeking applications from the eligible applicants for the post of Senior Public Health Officer in Juba, South Sudan or Nairobi, Kenya.
UNHCR’s primary purpose is to safeguard the rights and well-being of refugees.
Key Jobs Responsibilities
The Senior Public Health Officer will perform the following functions-
- Responsible for coordination and provision of technical support to UNHCR partners and heads the UNHCR Public Health Unit (Health, Nutrition/Food Security, WASH, HIV/AIDS/Reproductive Health, and Health Information.
- Ensure that minimum standards for Public Health are met among Persons of concern to UNHCR (PoC) in South Sudan, and is responsible for the overall coordination and technical support in the Public Health Sector.
- Responsible for Public Health planning, programming, monitoring and evaluation to effectively address all relevant issues of public health importance.
- Ensure that public health services provided by partner to refugees and other PoC comply with the required national/ UNHCR / and/ or international standards through implementation of appropriate country protocols and guidance and adherence to UNHCR specific guidance for public health programming.
- Lead the provision of technical contributions during planning, and monitoring and evaluation process in the UNHCR program cycle.
- Lead the coordination of public health services for PoCs to UNHCR with all relevant stakeholders and partners at all stages of the country operation.
- Play the key role in capacity building of partners; and facilitate partners¿ access to training activities.
- Ensure linkages of Public Health Services with other UNHCR programs like community services, and protection.
- Undertake needs and resources assessments, identify gaps and overlaps in programming, addresses unmet needs, and orient existing activities to address priority public health issues.
- Promote, support, and guide inter-sectoral coordination by other team members of the Public Health Unit.
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must have-
- Advanced University degree specialization in Public Health (e.g. medical science or nursing,), or equivalent.
- At least 10 years of relevant work experience.
- Proven technical competence in international health programming with emphasis on refugees/IDPs, emergencies or post-emergencies.
- Proven managerial competence in international health programming issues with emphasis on refugees/IDPs/emergencies or post-emergencies.
- Practical knowledge of planning, monitoring and implementation of health-related services in refugee or refugee-like situations.
- Practical experience in various refugee / internally displaced persons situations ranging from emergency to reconstruction/rehabilitation.
- Excellent knowledge of English.
