United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) is currently seeking applications from the eligible applicants for the post of Mass Communication Officer in Beirut, Lebanon.
The Mass Communication Officer will play a pivotal role as the focal point for Mass Communication mechanisms and messages for all sectors of the humanitarian response in Lebanon, largest UNHCR operation in the world.
UNHCR’s primary purpose is to safeguard the rights and well-being of refugees.
Key Jobs Responsibilities
The Mass Communication Officer will perform the following functions-
- Develop in close coordination with field offices and sectors the overall mass communication strategy.
- Design and update mechanisms to effectively inform refugees and host communities of the assistance and services provided and not provided, as well as basic principles of service provision including anti-fraud, PSEA (protection from sexual exploitation and abuse) etc.
- Identify channels and tools for conveying messages taking into consideration the educational and cultural profile of the target audience.
- Develop in close coordination with field offices and inter-agency sectors mass communication materials targeting refugees and host communities.
- Develop and implement in close coordination with field offices and partners, including the government, mass communication approaches tackling specific and difficult messages to refugee and host communities.
- Coordinate with all inter-agency sectors of the operation joint messages on policy developments.
- Implement campaigns aimed at informing, educating or sensitizing refugees and host communities on a variety of issues identified in close cooperation with Sector experts, Protection, Community Services and Field.
- Keep sectors staff, protection, field and community based protection staff, including refugee outreach volunteers, informed and trained on delivering key messages to refugees.
- Propose ways in which to address negative perceptions amongst refugee and host communities.
- Support and contribute to specific protection reports.
- Perform other duties as required.
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must have-
- Completion of University education with post-secondary training in Journalism, Communications, International Relations, Political Science or related field.
- Experience with and proven results in mass communication.
- Minimum 6 years of previous relevant job experience.
- Excellent computer skills and knowledge of MS Office applications.
- Excellent drafting skills.
- Proven ability to transpose complex concepts and procedures into simple messages.
- Fluency in English.
