International Criminal Court (ICC) is currently seeking applications from the eligible applicants for the post of Associate Legal Officer in The Hague, Netherlands.
ICC’s mission is to help end impunity for the perpetrators of the most serious crimes of concern to the international community.
Key Jobs Responsibilities
The Associate Legal Officer will perform the following functions-
- Analyze and undertake legal research into national and international legislation and jurisprudence.
- Providing advice on legal issues; and drafting rules and procedures on detention matters.
- Providing information and submitting filings to the relevant organs of the Court relative to the proper management of the Detention Center (DC).
- Reviewing requests coming from DPs or their Defense teams.
- Facilitate the transfer of persons under a warrant of arrest issued by the Court and to assist in the successful transfer of sentenced persons to Enforcement States.
- Maintain a list of data concerning DPs.
- To act as liaison person with the Dutch authorities, the inspecting authority (ICRC) and with States for matters related to the DPs within the jurisdiction of the Court.
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must have-
- Advanced university degree in law; emphasis on international criminal law, public international law, international humanitarian law, international human rights law or other relevant focus.
- A first level university degree in combination with two additional years of qualifying experience is accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.
- Minimum of two years of progressively responsible professional legal experience (four years with a first-level university degree) in a multi-cultural environment at national or international level.
- Knowledge of structure and management of large organizations and Modus Operandi of inter – governmental organizations in the international arena.
- Knowledge and experience in applying legal expertise to a diverse range of complex legal issues.
- Knowledge of computer applications.
- Analytical skills and the ability to conduct comprehensive legal research.
- Ability to address complaints and resolve problems.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Strong computer and presentation skills.
- Proficiency in either of the working languages of the Court (English and French) and working knowledge of the other is required.
- Knowledge of another official language of the Court (Arabic, Chinese, Russian, and Spanish) would be considered an asset.
