World Health Organization (WHO) is currently seeking applications from the eligible applicants for the post of Programme Officer in Geneva, Switzerland. The duration of this post is 3 months.
The primary role of WHO is to direct and coordinate international health within the United Nations’ system.
Key Jobs Responsibilities
The Programme Officer will perform the following functions-
- Support the continued development of the essential services taskforce within the interdisciplinary health systems recovery team.
- Provide technical assistance on health systems recovery to countries affected by Ebola through remote and in-country presence as required.
- Provide technical input into the development of an aligned approach between surveillance, preparedness, response and service strengthening.
- Prepare guidance, briefings, publications, toolkits, analysis as necessary on the reactivation of essential health services.
- Engage with key stakeholders to develop technical relationships on health service strengthening issues.
- Support knowledge agenda development, capacity building, information sharing, communication, analysis, and coordination related to reactivation of essential health services health.
- Provide rapid response on specific technical requests on health systems recovery that emerge from the countries as part of the efforts of the essential services taskforce.
- Support consultative technical working groups on the reactivation of essential health systems.

Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must have-
- A university degree in medicine and a postgraduate master’s degree in public health or health service management from an accredited university.
- Postgraduate qualification in a field relevant to service delivery in developing countries.
- At least 10 years of progressive responsibilities at national and/or international level in the field of health service strengthening.
- At least 10 years of experience working in developing countries.
- Several years of experience in providing high level and decision making advice to national authorities , international organizations and governing bodies on health policy and health systems.
- Experience in the areas of quality of service delivery in primary, secondary and tertiary care level facilities.
- Experience in result based financing to improve quality.
- Experience working with international organizations and at the national level.
- Experience working in countries in post crisis situations.
- Experience working for WHO/UN and/or in other international agencies.
- Experience working in the development aid environment, aid modalities and with health partner coordination systems.
- Expert knowledge of English is required.
- Intermediate knowledge of French.
