Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) is currently seeking applications from the eligible applicants for the post of Economist in Rome, Italy. The duration of this post is 2 years.
FAO promotes good practice in addressing governance challenges across its Strategic Objectives by strengthening its contribution to global governance, identifying mission-critical governance issues at national, regional and multilateral levels.
Key Job Responsibilities
The Economist performs the following functions-
- Collects, reviews/cross checks and/or analyses relevant agricultural, economic, trade, market, social, environmental, nutrition/food composition and/or gender related data, statistics and information to support delivery of programme projects, products, publications and services.
- Undertakes analysis, provides technical input for plans and reports and edits/revises technical documents and/or
- Participates in the development of improved tools and methodologies.
- Updates databases and web pages.
- Participates on multi-disciplinary project/work teams.
- Participates in the development of training materials and the organization of workshops/seminars etc.
- Draws monthly estimates and forecasts for production, trade, consumption and stocks for all market players.
- Perform aggregations of the supply and demand elements, to obtain world and regional totals, and balance world trade, by ensuring world imports and exports match.
- Regularly updates the price databases.
- Administers and manage the relevant web pages.
- Assists in the preparation of presentations and reports.
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must have-
- Advanced university degree in economics, agricultural economics or a related field.
- Three years of relevant experience in the analysis of markets, trade and policies.
- Work experience in more than one location or area of work, particularly in field positions is desirable.
- Extent and relevant experience in the construction of commodity supply and demand balance sheets.
- Extent and relevant experience in analysis of commodity markets and policies.
- Extent and relevant knowledge and experience in related fields, such as non-agricultural markets.
- Extent and relevant experience in the preparation, editing and revision of technical/scientific documents and in organizing meetings and workshops.
- Working knowledge of English, French or Spanish and limited knowledge of one of the other two or Arabic, Chinese and
