The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) is currently seeking applications from eligible applicants for the post of Communication Officer, based in New York, USA.

Key Job Responsibilities
The Communication Officer will perform the following functions-
- Contributes to the development of media strategies and media outreach to support the media section’s work on core UNICEF programme areas including WASH, education, health, nutrition and child protection.
- Assists in developing and maintaining close collaboration with mass media, as well as with groups and organizations whose support is essential to the achievement of the section’s advocacy and communication objectives.
- Drafts and edits articles, press releases, human interest stories and other advocacy/information materials for both web-based and traditional media, as appropriate. Proactively pitch stories on UNICEF issues.
- Prepares background communication and promotional materials for briefings and visits of media, goodwill ambassadors, donors, national committee representatives and other special interest groups. Assists in the planning, logistic and administrative arrangements for them.
- Helps organize and generate public support for special events and activities to promote country programme goals.
- Monitors the public perception of UNICEF issues, and any follow-up action to maintain a positive image for the organization.
- Works with other members of the media team to ensure the media section is abreast of external events and developments in the UN and NGO world which may impact our work.
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must have-
- University degree (Bachelor’s) in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations or related area; or professional work experience in the communication area, combined with a university degree in a related field.
- A minimum of two (2) years progressively responsible professional work experience in communication, print and broadcast media or interactive digital media, at either the national or international level.
- Fluency in English (written & verbal) is required. Fluency in another UN working language, preferably French and/or Spanish, is considered an asset.
