United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (ECA) is currently seeking applications from the eligible applicants for the post of Chief of Section in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
ECA’s mandate is to promote the economic and social development of its member States, foster intra-regional integration, and promote international cooperation for Africa’s development.
Key Jobs Responsibilities
The Chief of Section performs the following functions-
- Leads or provides major inputs in the formulation, organization and management of mandated programmes of economic governance, public administration and development management and in the formulation of possible governance, public administration and development management strategies, policies and actions for adoption by individual countries and/or the international community.
- Leads or participates extensively in the identification of new or emerging governance, public administration and development management issues of potential concern to Member States and/or the international community, particularly those of a regional or global nature and design and in the development of programmes to address them.
- Commissions and oversees governance, public administration and development management studies and analyses that cannot be undertaken internally.
- Plans, designs, supervise and undertake substantive research, studies, and prepare or reviews reports, and publications included in the Division’s regular budget programmes.
- Conceives plans and manages expert group meetings, seminars and similar consultations that contribute to the finalization of the work branch’s outputs.
- Writes, supervises and finalizes reports on governance, public administration and development management for issuance by the Division, the Department or the United Nations.
- Prepares and finalizes sectoral, country or regional analytical studies on governance, public administration and development management.
- Leads the development of a research agenda, oversees the development of key trends and specific topics to continuously enrich the substantive work of the Division.
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must have-
- An Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in public administration, governance, political science, social science, business administration, law, public finance or related field.
- A first-level university degree in combination with an additional two years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.
- A minimum of ten years of progressively responsible experience in governance, public administration, development management, or related field.
- Experience in economic governance and public sector management in Africa, including a track record of refereed publications in the area, is required.
- Fluency in one of the working languages of the UN Secretariat, English or French, (both oral and written) is required; knowledge of the other is desirable.
- Knowledge of another UN official language is an advantage.
