The Japan-based Women’s Fund for Peace and Human Rights has launched the Yayori Award to recognize the efforts of women activists, journalists and artists who have been working at the grassroots-level with socially marginalized people in order to create a 21st century free from war and discrimination. The Fund is especially encouraging younger activists to apply for the award. Geographically, the preference is given to support or award an individual or a group from mainly the Asian region.
The Award carries a cash amount of 500,000 yen along with an award certificate. Additionally, the winners will also receive support for transportation and accommodation to attend the presentation ceremony which will be held in Tokyo.
“Individuals and groups with nominees in mind are encouraged to submit recommendations for any and all appropriate candidates through the submission of a nomination form and all applicable references. Self-nomination won’t be accepted. The reference material that is submitted will not be returned. The form and the references shall be submitted in English. For convenience, it is recommended that the form and the reference be submitted as an e-mail attachment.”
