Floor Trokon International Building, Ashmun Street Monrovia Montserrado Liberia (+231)6597438/(+231)6552293 forowliberia[AT]yahoo.com Forum for the Rights of Women (FOROW) seeks to promote the rights of women by ensuring that they have the requisite education/information that will enable them to participate more meaningfully in the political, economic, social and the developmental process of Liberia. The organization also seeks to fight all forms of discrimination by lobbying with the national legislature to enact laws that will abrogate discriminatory laws against women, especially the indigenous (grassroots).FOROW is also involved in peace building and reconciliation in an effort to unite the women of Liberia especially those from the various tribes that fought against each other during the civil war in
Liberia. AIMS AND OBJECTIVES:
1. To use human rights education/awareness as a medium through which women would attain their constitutional and fundamental rights.
2. To advocate for the enactment of laws in support of the promotion and protection of women’s rights.
3. To monitor, verify, document and disseminate human rights abuses/violations against women.
4. To contribute to peace and reconciliation amongst the women of Liberia.
ACTIVITIES:
1. Presently FOROW is conducting awareness workshops on the rights of women in the rural areas of Liberia. In observance of the rights of women, FOROW is combating discrimination against women which is hindering the political, social, cultural and economic growth of women by conducting more awareness and advocating for the rights of women.
2. Designing learning strategies in the area of human rights and peace building for the illiterates who are in majority; like traditional Zoes, elders, community Leaders, Chiefs, youth groups, etc.
3. Monitoring, gathering, analyzing and documenting human rights violations.
4. Redress through dialogue, legal conferences with parties, position letters and press releases and other traditional methods.
