Applications are now open for the Joint African Masters Program in Comparative Local Development (JAMP), an initiative of the Polytechnic of Namibia (Namibia), the University of Trento (Italy), the Universidade São Tomás de Moçambique (Mozambique) and Tshwane University of Technology (South Africa). The main aim behind starting this program is to provide eligible students the skills required for introducing and managing various activities to bring change and transformation at the local level.
The focus of the program is local development, with the following characteristics: public, private and non-governmental actors are the fundamental agents; social stability and economic prosperity are pursued, in conformity with the African and European standards and best practice. The approach is comparative and interdisciplinary. The program consists of 24 months training ((240 credits in Namibia and South Africa; 120 ECTS in Europe; 300 credits in Mozambique) for a post-graduate Masters course degree.
Degree Conferred
Upon the successful completion of all master activities, the Academic Authorities of the organising institutions will award the Joint Degree “Joint African Master in Comparative Local Development”, which corresponds to the following, in each of the partner countries:
– Italy: I level Masters Degree according to the DM 509/99 art. 3, comma 9 and subsequent modifications;
– Namibia: Masters Degree;
– South Africa: M Tech: Comparative Local Development at NQF Level 8.
– Mozambique: MA Comparative Local Development
Admission Requirements
In order to qualify for the program candidates have to comply with the following requirements:
– A university degree allowing access to second cycle (Master’s) university degree programs, equivalent to:
-> European Union: 180 ECTS;
-> Mozambique: 600 credits;
-> Namibia: four-year Bachelor degree with a research component or an equivalent qualification as approved by Senate in Namibia.
-> South Africa: 480 credits;
The degree should be preferably in economics, management, law, political science, sociology, public administration and management or an equivalent qualification;
– Good knowledge the English language. This knowledge is considered ascertained if the degree teaching medium was English. Otherwise it has to be proved by a paper-based TOEFL test score of 550, a level B of FCE or an equivalent qualification;
– Submission of a research proposal; and
– Congruence of experience and motivation with the nature of the local comparative development program.
