African Economic Research Consortium (AERC) is launching a major collaborative research project on Growth in Fragile and Post-Conflict countries (Africa). The research aims to better understand the growth dynamics in fragile and post conflict countries in Africa and to better inform economic policies that promote sustainable growth and development. AERC network participants and/or other researchers interested in developing framework papers as part of the AERC collaborative research project on Growth in Fragile States in Africa can submit proposals/expression of interest.
Priority Areas/Topics of Research (not limited to):
- The nature and causes of fragility in Africa
- Drivers of growth in fragile states in Africa
- Causes of conflict in Africa, conflict resolution, and post-conflict management
- The impact of inclusive finance (e.g. financial access) on inclusive growth in fragile and post conflict countries
- Understanding the link between growth, poverty and inequality in fragile states
- Understanding the link between growth and women empowerment in fragile and post-conflict states
- Public Service delivery and growth in fragile states
- Business environment in fragile states
- Macro management in fragile states
- State of infrastructure and infrastructure gap in fragile countries
- Natural resource management and growth in fragile states
- Job creation, productive employment, and the youth challenge in fragile states
Eligibility Criteria
- The applicant/primary investigator must be a senior scholar or researcher who has a strong record of publications in areas of Growth and fragility.
- Qualified women are strongly encouraged to apply.
Application Process
Proposals must be submitted via email. Attachments must include-
- Proposal, not exceeding 15 pages, with clear identification and conceptualization of the issues to be addressed, discussion of the state of the art on the issues identified, clear testable hypotheses, methodology, and, if possible, expected outcomes and policy implications.
- Curriculum vitae (CV) for each author (include in the CV: nationality, gender, and full contact details).
Selected applicants will be informed by 15 September 2015.
