The Cleveland Zoological Society is currently accepting applications from eligible African & Asian individuals for its Africa & Asian Seed Grants Program 2016. The initiative offers funds to support field conservation and research projects in Africa & Asia. Annual awards ranging from $1000 to $3500 will be made to conservation and research initiatives involving wildlife and their habitats, and educational or cultural activities that involve or impact wildlife and their habitats. Ideal projects have clear and direct conservation impact, positively affect local people and create opportunities for capacity building in country.
Focus Regions: Africa & Asia
Award Amount: $1,000-$3,500
Focus Areas
- Wildlife protection (law enforcement, illegal wildlife trade issues, etc.)
- Human wildlife conflict mitigation
- Development and promotion of sustainable environmental practices
- Habitat protection and restoration (terrestrial and freshwater ecosystems)
- Capacity-building, education/training, community-based conservation and development
- Conservation biology, ecology and natural history studies (terrestrial and freshwater ecosystems)
Key Dates
- Pre-Proposal Deadline: 2 November 2015
- Pre-Proposal Notification: 2 December 2015
- Full Proposal Deadline: 4 January 2016
- Final Notification: 3 February 2016
Eligibility Criteria
- Application should provide complete information of the project including detailed experimental design and methodology.
- Projects that designate local/public education/awareness as a significant program outcome must include an evaluation component.
- Projects should contain a clearly defined beginning and ending; they should begin on the year application is being made but not before the funds are awarded.
- Request can be made for partial funding of a project but grant request more than $3500 will not be considered for evaluation.
- Subsequent phases of previously funded projects may be submitted.
- Highly invasive, terminal research projects or projects that collect/voucher specimens will not be considered for funding.
- Applicants previously funded through one of Cleveland Metroparks Zoo’s competitive grants programs may apply for additional funding for the same or a new project only after all of the requirements have been met for the previously funded grant. One Principal Investigator is awarded only two grants for the same project.
- An applicant can make any number of different project applications.
