Eligibility Criteria for VLIR-UOS Scholarships
- Applicants must be national and resident of one of the 54 eligible countries in Africa, Asia and Latin America at the moment of application.
- Applicants must be from education and research institutions, the government sector, social economy and NGOs. Applicants from profit sector are not considered.
- Applicants can be at most 40 years of age for Master Program and at most 45 years of age for training program.
- Applicants should meet the academic admission criteria set by university or university college concerning educational background, language proficiency etc.
- Applicants for Master Program should not have been enrolled in a Master program (or equivalent) at a Belgian University before.
- Applicants for training course should have relevant professional experience and a written (future) employer’s statement of (re)integration in an employment where the acquired knowledge and skills will be immediately applicable. The statement should also confirm the added value of the training for the candidate and the organization.
- Past VLIR-OUS scholarship recipients are not eligible to apply.
- Applications can be made for one training or master program per year.
- If the applicant is currently an employee of a university that currently is receiving support from VLIR-UOS through the Institutional University Cooperation IUC program or TEAM program: s/he need a letter or statement from the IUC or TEAM coordinator stating that her/his department is not involved in IUC or TEAM.

- Africa: Benin, Burkina Faso, Burundi, DR Congo, Ethiopia, Gambia, Ghana, Guinea, Ivory Coast, Cameroon, Kenya, Madagascar, Malawi, Mali, Morocco, Mozambique, Nigeria, Rwanda, Senegal, Tanzania, Togo, Tunisia, Uganda, Zambia, Zimbabwe, and South Africa.
- Asia: Bangladesh, Cambodia, Philippines, India, Indonesia, Jordan, Laos, Nepal, Palestinian Territories, Sri Lanka, Thailand, and Vietnam.
- Latin America: Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, Cuba, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, Guatemala, Guyana, Honduras, Haiti, Mexico, Nicaragua, Paraguay, Peru, Suriname, and Uruguay.
How to apply?
- Visit the VLIR-UOS Eligible Programs page and click on the training or master program you want to apply.
- Follow the guidelines for application provided on the related program.
- Mention your wish to apply for a scholarship in the program application.
- Your application will be forwarded to VLIR-UOS.
Note: You cannot submit scholarship applications directly to VLIR-OUS.
