The Global Press Institute (GPI) won the Global Reach Award 2013. The project theme is – Women throughout the developing world are uniquely capable of changing the face of international journalism. Main goal of the project is to provide journalism training to women in Bangladesh, Morocco, Papua New Guinea and Tunisia.
Under the Project, GPI provides six (6) months training to women throughout the developing world and train them to be professional journalists. The participant who completes the training is offered job placement by GPI. She becomes the dignified professional journalists who contribute to the GPI newsletter and earns a strong living. The news produced by these professionals are authentic, ethical and related to social issues. They act as change makers in their communities, providing standard living to their children and investing to community development.
Global Press Institute low-cost high impact project works in Africa, Asia and the Middle East, investing to women’s professionalism which has changed the lives of women to a greater extent. The achievements are measured in three ways –
- Impact on the lives of women – their living style, access to medical care, education to children and others.
- Quality and quantity of news these women are producing. 20% of GPI stories are related to some level of social change.
- Global reach – The news are published in the GPI newsletter, and 80 syndicate partners around the world.
The women have become story teller and ethical journalists. They live freer, fuller lives; their children are in schools and receive medical care, they are becoming leaders in change makers in their communities – the project has become transformational.
