The Institute for Justice and Reconciliation (IJR) and The Hague Institute for Global Justice (The Hague Institute) have jointly launched three-week intensive Transitional Justice Fellowship Program to be conducted from 8-20 June 2014 in Johannesburg, South Africa and from 21-27 June 2014 in The Hague, Netherlands. The fellowship aims to effectively equip participants to address challenges specific to democratic transitions by exposing them to various transitional justice tools. Its purpose is to enhance participants’ skills and knowledge, with a particular focus on issues related to reconciliation and social cohesion within the context of transitional justice.
Abstract/talking points should address the following themes –
- Strengthening the Rule of Law in home-country.
- The right to truth in transitional justice and challenges of/opportunities for localized investigations and prosecutions.
- Cross-border tensions in home-country and the need for regional reconciliation.
The fellowship covers all travel and accommodation costs for the duration of the fellowship and will provide a modest stipend for daily expenses.
Eligibility Criteria:
- Applicants must be African nationals living in African continent.
- Applicants from Burundi, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Kenya, Mali, Rwanda, South Sudan, Uganda and Zimbabwe will be given preference.
- Applicants must hold a post-graduate degree in a discipline broadly related to Transitional Justice; 4 to 5 years of relevant work experience in the realm of transitional justice, reconciliation and/or social cohesion, social justice and excellent proficiency in written and spoken English.
- Applicants must commit (written) to implement at least one follow-up activity in-country within one year of the end of the fellowship program.
