PhD supervisors from academic institutions in EMEA (Europe, Middle East, Africa) are invited to submit collaborative research project proposals for the Microsoft Research PhD Scholarship Program.
Around 20 projects will be selected for funding after peer review. After selection of the projects, PhD students will be appointed to the selected projects and they can begin their research under the supervision of their academic supervisor. The academic supervisor has at most one year to find the best possible student for the project. Each project will be provided a co-supervisor from a researcher at Microsoft Research Cambridge.

Each scholarship consists of an annual bursary up to three years and laptop allowance. The scholars will be invited to participate in the PhD summer school of Microsoft Research in Cambridge. The summer school includes a series of talks of academic interest and posters sessions providing scholars the opportunity to present their work to Microsoft researchers and a number of Cambridge academics. Some scholars may also be offered paid internship in one of the Microsoft Research laboratories.
Eligibility Criteria
- Applicants must be submitted by academic institutions, such as from a PhD supervisor or departmental secretary. Students cannot apply directly.
