African journalists are invited to apply for Thomson Reuters multimedia journalism course in Nairobi, Kenya. The purpose of this training is to provide methods for finding, developing and presenting stories using multimedia. For this trainin English proficiency is required.
Training is practical by nature, and is based around a combination of exercises and group discussions, drawing upon examples from all branches of multimedia. Sessions of the course include; photography, filming, story boarding, video editing, and pitching multimedia stories as well as theoretical discussions on the importance and significance of multimedia journalism.
Eligibility & Criteria-
- Applicants must have a minimum of two years journalistic experience in either general news or in a specialist area, and must be looking to gain new multimedia skills to enhance their work. No prior technical skills are required for the course.
- Applicants must be African journalists and currently working as a journalist or regular contributor to broadcast media organizations. Bursaries would include economy travel expenses (for participants travelling to Kenya) and accommodation. This arrangement is subject to variation.
Documents required-
- A biography/CV of up to 250 words outlining your career.
- Two recent examples of your published work, preferably relevant to the course for which you are applying, with a brief summary in English (if necessary). TV/Radio journalists can send in their scripts and a brief summary.
- A statement of between 250 and 500 words that describes your work as a journalist and explains how you hope to benefit from the Multimedia journalism course. This should include; – What type of software you use on your PC or Mac to edit images/tell stories/publish them; – Reference to any personal photography or multimedia work (including whether you have ever built an online photographic database such as on Flickr or if you have a blog).
