The Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) is currently accepting Letters of Interest for its newly implemented project- Voices of the Hungry (VoH). FAO Voices of the Hungry project promotes research on food insecurity, based on data from the Gallup® World Poll. The project seeks develop a new global standard for estimating the number of people experiencing food insecurity, called the Food Insecurity Experience Scale (FIES).
Beginning in 2014, FAO has inserted the FIES into the Gallup® World Poll (GWP), a branch of Gallup, Inc. conducting nationally representative surveys annually in more than 150 countries. The project provides technical assistance to countries interested in using the FIES and conducts regional workshops.
One-year licenses data will be granted to access GWP microdata for all countries surveyed to the selected researchers. License holders will be able to use the original microdata received from Gallup for a one year period from the date of access. These rich data sets include indices related to a wide range of topics, including: business and economics, citizen engagement, communication and technology, environment and energy, food and shelter, government and politics, health, law and order, religion and ethics, social issues, well-being, and work.
Timeline
- Deadline to submit leters of interest (LOI)- 15 February 2015
- Applicants will be notified to submit full proposal- 1 April 2015
- Deadline to submit full proposal via online application form- 1 June 2015
- Results will be announced- 15 august 2015
- Delivery of data to awarded license holders- 31 August 2015
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must be an individual researcher having done a research work on food or nutrition security from an affiliated institute.
How to apply?
- Letters of Interest along with Curriculum Vitae can be submitted to the organisation via email.
- LOI must be of one page not exceeding 800 words.
- Format for the one-page Letter of Interest:
- Name and address of researcher
- Institutional affiliation and address
- Summary of food or nutrition security research to date
- Brief summary of proposed research project using the GWP data to study food security
