The Australian Leadership Awards (ALA) of the Australian Government provide opportunities to individuals in the Asia-Pacific region in developing leadership, building partnerships and linkages. The awards sponsor postgraduate studies at the masters or doctorate level at an Australian university for selected candidates. Along with the postgraduate study, candidates also undergo leadership development program of the AUSAID. Candidates need to take up subjects prioritized by the program, which include disability, economic growth, education, environment, food security, gender, governance, health, human rights, infrastructure, regional stability, rural development and water & sanitation. After the completion of the program, the selected candidates need to commit at least two years of their time in their home country. Scholarships come around to $150,000 for a period of two years for Master’s and $300,000 for a period of four years for doctorate.
