The European Commission has issued a Restricted Call for Proposals from NGOs as well as international organizations working in Asian countries under its SWITCH-Asia “Promoting Sustainable Consumption and Production.” The objective of the programme is “To promote economic prosperity and poverty reduction in Asian countries through sustainable growth with reduced environmental impact by industries and consumers, in line with international environmental agreements and processes.” The grant covers most of the countries in South Asia, South East Asia and North Asia, but NGOs from Least developing countries such as Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Cambodia, Laos, Maldives, Myanmar and Nepal are encouraged to apply. Only concept notes have to be submitted initially and then proposals would be solicited. The last date for submitting concept notes is 27 February 2009.
