FOCUS is a voluntary organization registered under Society Registration Act and has been operating in the slums and shanties of the different parts of Kolkata especially in the eastern part comprising Tiljala, Dhapa, Tangra, Topsia etc. for the last 25 years. FOCUS has been implementing Central-Sponsored programme on urban poverty including street children programme, sponsored by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment and UNICEF, Child Labour Rehabilitation Programme sponsored by the Ministry of Labour through the Office of the Labour Commissioner West Bengal, Waste Pickers Rehabilitation Programme, Empowerment of Poor Family through Self Help Group Formation and active in Trickle Up Grant for starting an entrepreneurship and small business. FOCUS is Govt.-Sponsored Anti Drug and HIV/AIDS programme especially in Red Light area. Our Accounts are duly audited by Chartered Accountant and periodically submitted to the FCRA Authority, Delhi and Govt. of West Bengal.
FOCUS has been working in close cooperation with CMDA and KMC in various urban planning programme like Slum Improvement Programme, SSEP, ICDS programme of State Welfare Ministry and UNICEF and Child Labour Abolition programme of ILO and Labour Ministry, door to door waste recycling collection by the waste pickers with the help of ADB and KMC ward wise project. FOCUS concentrated in Karaya, C.N. Roy Road, Topsia, Tangra, Tiljala, Rajabazar, Narkeldanga, Metiabruz, Hastings, Dhapa and its adjacent areas. KMC, KMDA, UNICEF and DFID authorities have appreciated the fieldwork of FOCUS. We also work in conjunction with Private Foreign Development Agencies. UK Save The Children Fund, HOPE Foundation, Bread for the World (BFW), Belgium agency for Lead-Working Children Elimination and Rehabilitation Programme and similar other organization. FOCUS also participated various Government, Police and UN Programme against Anti Drug, HIV/AIDS, against Environmental Pollution and promoting ecological development programme with special emphasis on Prime Minister Balmiki Rojgar Yojna for Bustee Re-housing, communal harmony and promoting ideas for social justice equalities and friendship between different ethnic and religious group and diverse political affiliation. FOCUS work with grass root CBOs and have been able to develop motivation and self-commitment for social justice by the professionally trained community leaders.
• Integrated Programme for Street Children sponsored by Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment for 500 children.
• Child Labour Rehabilitation Programme sponsored by NCLP, Ministry of Labour, Govt. of India for 50 children.
• Sikhshalaya Prakalpa sponsored by DPEP for 600 children.
• Innovative Approach for Slum Development (Formation of SHGs, PSCs, Vocational Training & Women Empowerment) supported by BFW/CASA
• Programme of Small Entrepreneurship Training with financial grant to start small business supported by Trickle Up Program, New York.
• Child labour Rehabilitation Programme of “Battery Breaking Children” of Dhobitala, Tangra, jointly run by FOCUS/WIN supported by Belgium Donor for 80 Children. This project has totally eliminated children from battery breaking of Dhobiatala, Tangra.
• Rag-Pickers Rehabilitation Programme for 50 children supported by
local groups of Dhapa Area.
• Working Children Program- 100 working children in need of care & protection in Ward no 4 & Ward no.18 under Rajarhat Gopalpur Municipality
