Activities in Brief: Women empowerment programmes
- Lucknow Mahila Sewa Trust initiated a project for ‘women’s economic empowerment for sustainable livelihood’ in collaboration with ITC Limited in the year 2004. Under this project women were mobilized to form Self Help Groups and were educated about the ways and means for savings.
- The project has since successfully completed four years of implementation and entered 5th year of operation.
- The organization had undertaken various activities comprising SHG formation, Micro finance/Micro enterprises, Capacity building,Employment generation.The organization formed 195 SHGs consisting of total 2703 members. The members were provided necessary training for Micro enterprises for production and marketing of Chikankari, Agarbatti and FMCG.
- The members were provided with training for capacity building which included Group management, savings, micro credit, forward and backward linkages, marketing techniques etc.

- The organization has formed more than 500 women SHGs in the districts of Barabanki & Lucknow with the aim to increase the self-confidence, self-esteem and autonomy among women.
- LMST is running a project for imparting Handicraft training on Chikan Zari Zardosi craft in the district Lucknow with the support of ART-VENTURE, Singapore. /
- Handicraft development programme :
- The organization has successfully completed a project for training on Chikan & Zari Embroidery under for 120 women artisans of the Barabanki with the support of Ministry of Textiles, Government of India. About 500 artisans are monetarily gaining by means of developing Artisan Cards, etc. and getting Bank Loans & also insured with LIC of India.
- Other Activities
The organization has also been working in co-ordination with various development agencies and corporate sectors
- A study conducted for artisans engaged in Zari and Chikan embroidery to ascertain their present socio-economic status.
- An in-depth study was conducted to ascertain the living condition of street-vendors of Utter Pradesh.
- A study was done on “Languishing Craft” in Lucknow.
- A study under National Council for Applied Economic Research, New Delhi with the support of UNIFEM, Lucknow.
- A study conducted for artisans at Rampur and on Zari artisans of Bareilly.
The organization has been working for empowering and improving living condition of women and children agencies involved are SEWA Bharat, Sewa Academy, NABARD, SSK-Lucknow, Upvan Lucknow, Home net-India, Nasvi, STFC and State Central Labour Commissioner Labour Commissioner, Uttar Pradesh. The organization has been instrumental in developing banking among the poorer sections in Lucknow LMST is working with ICICI Bank. special business correspondent branch in Lucknow. The organization have been working for the ,Climate change, health & family welfare, literacy & education, for destitute street children, venders & older/ persons and for conservation of environment. Thrust Area: Long range holistic development by creating a knowledgeable society, provide quality health service, education & vocational skills to get in to self-employment or employment & create more and more job avenues, women empowerment, and Agriculture development.
Experience :The LMST has experience in the field of rural and urban slums development, micro finance, capacity building, Sustainable Livelihood.
