ORGANISATION PROFILE
RATA stands for Rehabilitation Action for Torture Victims in Aceh. It was built in 1999 in Banda Aceh by IRCT (International Rehabilitation Council of Torture). Since 2003, RATA has become an accredited member of IRCT in Denmark.

1. conflict rehabilitation (1999-2003).
Rehabilitating survivors of torture which suffer physical or mental illnesses, income generating program for widows in Pidie, Bireuen, Aceh Utara and Aceh Timur. RATA also building clean water sanitation in Pidie district.
2. Rehabilitating on survivors of torture and tsunami IDPs.
To serve tsunami and earthquake’s IDPs, RATA implement mobile clinic program, income generating for women with home industry program, psychosocial program and local groups strengthening in Bireuen district.
3. Rehabilitation for survivors of torture.
Until now, RATA still implementing psychosocial program with individual and group counseling method for survivors of torture with psychological disturbances and medic rehabilitation with mobile clinic program.

Supplying nutrient food for kids in IDPs’ barracks while tsunami and earthquake occur in 2004. RATA also implements education for children under five with KHA approach, mobile library to supplying books for children, institution for children activities, such as story-telling and painting. RATA also colaborating with Save the Children, Child fund, UNICEF, education government department and social department to conduct kids’ forum in Bireuen district.
Experiences on emergency program.
While conflict occur in Aceh, RATA evacuating survivors of torture out from their villages to gain medical treatment. RATA do this program by coordinating with local government and local authorities on 1999-2003. Besides that, RATA also doing evacuating tsunami’s victims and distributing basic needs for tsunami’s victims in Banda Aceh at end of 2004.

1. Chief board RATA foundation is Mr. Nurdin Abdul Rahman, as regent district Bireuen period 2007-2012.
2. For now RATA still adapt with new regent constitutions and approximated will end by this October.
