SURAKSHA a voluntary organization of Gajapati District evolved in the year 1997, by a group of like-minded people with an intuitive vision to serve the marginalized and down trodden communities for a greater social change in the field of socio-economic empowerment. Since its inception it has been struggling hard to show its efficiency & effectiveness in the development process, rendering the best possible services for the holistic development of the community.
Since the day of inception the organization has been intervened in the Socio-economic development basically focusing on Natural Resource Management, Sustainable agricultural practices, rehabilitation to the Drought affected communities, integrated horticulture development with women drudgery reduction, Education of the dropout, never enrolled and child laborers, community health-with special focus on reduce the rate of infant and mother mortality, combating and HIV/AIDS and Malaria, accessing better sanitary practices, promoting gender equality and women empowerment through capacity building trainings, credit linkages to establish own entrepreneurship programmes for the economic withstand, imparting different skill development trainings to the unemployed youth for the sustainable livelihood and integration of rural development are the integrated developmental approach of SURAKSHA
SURAKSHA is having dynamic, resourceful and qualified team members with good community cooperation. The SHG members, village level religion organizations and the CBOs in the area are very active with good social cohesion. The PRI leaders and the personnel from line departments are very cooperative.
The target community of SURAKSHA is the Primitive (Soura) Tribes now immersed in to Christianity, are maintaining the deplorable socio-economic life like without any basic avenues on the livelihood promotion and become marginalized and impoverished, who needs to be rehabilitated addressing the immediate poverty needs.
Presently, SURAKSHA is actively concentrating in 19 G.Ps of Gumma, 5 GPs of Nuagada, 2 GPs of parlakhemundi blocks under Gajapati District, Orissa, all are the tribal, dalit and backward communities.
The Organization has been registered under SR Act XXI of 1860, FCRA, Income Tax Act 12 A.
It has been good pact of partnership with ACTION AID, CARE, Partnership Transparancy Fund and with Government agencies like NABARD, H & F.W, SC & ST development department, Department of Forest and Environment.
