Massey College in the University of Toronto is accepting applications for the ‘Gordon N. Fisher/JHR Journalism Fellowship’ program 2014 from experienced journalists in print or electronic news media from Sub-Saharan Africa. The major aim of the Fisher Journalism Fellowship is to encourage improvement in journalism by offering to qualified men and women an opportunity to broaden their horizons by studying in a university setting.
The fellowship covers eight-month stipend, all university fees, travel expenses to and from Toronto, travel expenses for organized trips during the program, winter clothing allowance, and book allowance.
Eligibility Criteria –
- Journalists from Sub-Saharan Africa are eligible to apply, preference is given to candidates from Sierra Leone, Ghana, Tanzania, DR Congo, and Liberia.
- Candidate must have 8 years’ experience working in media.
- Applicant must be full-time news or editorial employee at a newspaper, radio station, television station, magazine or news service. Freelance journalists who have been working consistently in the media over an eight-year period are also eligible.
- Applicant must be proficient in English.
- Application form accompanied with a proposal for a plan of study, statement of the applicant’s experience, curriculum vitae, samples of written or broadcast work, three letters of reference sent separately by referees must reach before the deadline.
