Executive Summary
Climate change is increasingly undermining the livelihoods of vulnerable communities through recurrent droughts, floods, erratic rainfall, and extreme weather events. Smallholder farmers, women, youth, and informal workers are among the most affected, facing reduced incomes, food insecurity, and heightened poverty risks.
This proposal seeks to strengthen climate-resilient livelihoods for vulnerable communities by promoting climate-smart income-generating activities, improving access to skills, finance, and markets, and enhancing community capacity to adapt to climate risks. The project will adopt an inclusive, community-led approach to build sustainable livelihoods while strengthening local resilience to climate shocks.
Background and Problem Statement
Vulnerable communities in climate-exposed regions rely heavily on climate-sensitive livelihoods such as agriculture, fisheries, and natural resource-based activities. Increasing climate variability has led to crop failures, loss of assets, declining productivity, and forced migration. Women and marginalized groups face additional barriers, including limited access to land, finance, technology, and decision-making processes.
Despite growing awareness of climate risks, many communities lack the resources, knowledge, and institutional support required to transition to climate-resilient livelihood models. There is an urgent need for integrated interventions that combine livelihood diversification, climate adaptation, and social inclusion.
