Executive Summary
This proposal outlines an emergency Hygiene Kit Distribution and Community Awareness Campaign aimed at improving hygiene practices and reducing the risk of communicable diseases in crisis-affected communities. The program will distribute essential hygiene kits and conduct community-based awareness activities for 6,000 vulnerable individuals over a 6-month implementation period. The intervention focuses on promoting safe hygiene behaviors such as handwashing, personal hygiene, menstrual hygiene management, and safe water handling. The total funding requested is USD XXXXXX to support procurement of hygiene supplies, community outreach activities, and monitoring systems to ensure effective health protection during humanitarian emergencies.
Problem Statement
In humanitarian emergencies and displacement settings, limited access to hygiene supplies and lack of awareness about proper sanitation practices increase the risk of disease outbreaks such as cholera, diarrhea, skin infections, and respiratory illnesses. Overcrowded shelters and inadequate water and sanitation facilities further exacerbate health risks, particularly for women, children, and elderly populations.
Without adequate hygiene materials and knowledge of preventive practices, vulnerable communities face severe health consequences. Immediate hygiene kit distribution combined with awareness campaigns is essential to improve hygiene behaviors, protect public health, and reduce disease transmission.
Project Goal and Objectives
Goal:
To reduce the spread of hygiene-related diseases by improving access to hygiene supplies and promoting safe hygiene practices in crisis-affected communities.
Objectives
- Distribute essential hygiene kits to 1,200 vulnerable households.
- Promote handwashing and safe hygiene practices through community awareness campaigns.
- Increase knowledge on menstrual hygiene management and safe sanitation practices.

Target Population
The project will prioritize:
- Internally displaced persons (IDPs) and disaster-affected households
- Female-headed households
- Families with children under five years
- Pregnant and lactating women
- Elderly individuals and persons with disabilities
Project Components and Activities

Implementation Timeline
- Month 1: Needs assessment, procurement of hygiene kits, beneficiary identification
- Months 2–5: Hygiene kit distribution and community awareness campaigns
- Month 6: Monitoring review, follow-up awareness activities, and project evaluation
Expected Outcomes
- 1,200 households receive essential hygiene kits
- Increased awareness of proper hygiene and sanitation practices
- Reduced risk of hygiene-related disease outbreaks
- Improved health and wellbeing of vulnerable community members
Monitoring and Evaluation
Monitoring will include hygiene kit distribution tracking, attendance records from awareness sessions, community feedback surveys, and hygiene behavior assessments. Field teams will collect monthly data to evaluate improvements in hygiene practices. A final evaluation will measure program effectiveness and document lessons learned.
Budget (Narrative Form)
The total estimated budget for the 6-month Hygiene Kit Distribution and Community Awareness Campaign is USD 320,000. Approximately USD 180,000 will be allocated for procurement and distribution of hygiene kits for 1,200 households. Community awareness campaigns, educational materials, and training of volunteers will require USD 40,000. Personnel costs, including project coordinators, hygiene promotion officers, and field staff, are estimated at USD 60,000. Monitoring, reporting, and evaluation activities will require USD 20,000, while logistics, transportation, and administrative expenses are estimated at USD 18,000. A contingency reserve of USD 2,000 is included to address unexpected operational needs.
Sustainability and Exit Strategy
The project will strengthen community ownership by training local volunteers and leaders to continue hygiene promotion after the project period. Coordination with local health authorities and humanitarian partners will ensure that communities remain connected to ongoing water, sanitation, and health programs. Continued awareness efforts and improved hygiene practices will help sustain public health improvements beyond the emergency intervention period.
