Executive Summary
Youth across the globe are driving innovative solutions to pressing social, economic, and environmental challenges. However, many young innovators and aspiring social entrepreneurs lack access to mentorship, technical support, seed funding, and enabling ecosystems to turn ideas into sustainable, impact-driven enterprises.
The project “Innovation Labs for Youth-Led Social Enterprises” aims to establish inclusive innovation labs that nurture youth-led social enterprises through structured incubation, mentorship, skills development, and access to networks and finance. The labs will serve as collaborative spaces where young people co-create solutions, test business models, and scale social impact.
Implemented over 36 months, the project will support youth aged 18–35, with a strong focus on women, marginalized groups, and first-generation entrepreneurs. By strengthening youth entrepreneurship ecosystems, the project will contribute to job creation, community transformation, and sustainable development.
Background and Problem Statement
Young people represent one of the largest and most dynamic segments of the population, yet they face persistent challenges such as unemployment, underemployment, and limited economic opportunities. At the same time, youth possess creativity, digital skills, and a deep understanding of community challenges.
Key barriers faced by youth-led social enterprises include:
- Limited access to startup capital and seed funding
- Weak business and financial management skills
- Lack of mentorship and exposure to markets
- Fragmented support ecosystems
- Limited pathways to scale successful models
Without targeted support, many promising youth-led initiatives fail to reach sustainability or scale. There is a strong need for dedicated innovation labs that provide integrated, youth-friendly support and bridge the gap between ideas and impact.
