Executive Summary
Climate change is increasingly driving migration by undermining livelihoods, particularly in climate-vulnerable regions. Droughts, floods, sea-level rise, and environmental degradation are forcing households to migrate in search of income and security—often under unsafe and informal conditions. This project addresses the root causes of climate-induced migration by strengthening livelihood resilience in vulnerable communities while supporting migrants and host communities.
Through climate-resilient livelihoods, skills development, financial inclusion, and community planning, the project aims to reduce distress migration, enhance adaptive capacity, and promote inclusive local development. Over 36 months, the initiative will directly benefit 12,000 individuals, including climate-affected households, migrants, and host communities.
Problem Statement
Climate change is reshaping migration patterns, particularly among rural and coastal populations dependent on climate-sensitive livelihoods such as agriculture, fisheries, and informal labor. Repeated climate shocks reduce income, erode assets, and increase vulnerability, forcing families to migrate as a survival strategy.
Unplanned migration often leads to insecure employment, social exclusion, and pressure on host communities. At the same time, communities of origin lose productive labor and face declining resilience. There is an urgent need for integrated approaches that link climate adaptation, livelihood resilience, and migration management.
