Background and Rationale
Financial exclusion remains a major barrier to women’s economic empowerment. According to the World Bank, millions of women globally still lack access to formal financial services. Gender gaps in bank account ownership, digital literacy, and access to mobile technology prevent women from participating fully in economic activities.
The Global Findex Database highlights that while digital banking has expanded rapidly, marginalized women—especially in rural and low-income communities—continue to face structural barriers such as limited documentation, low financial literacy, restricted mobility, and social norms.
This project proposes a community-based approach to increase women’s access to digital financial services, enhance financial literacy, and promote sustainable livelihoods through secure digital banking systems.
