The Asian Rural Women’s Coalition (ARWC) since 2008 has been engaged in putting forward the struggle for rights and interests of rural women in Asia, through supporting initiatives of Asian women within their countries.
In context of 100 years celebration of International Women’s Day in March 2011, AWRC invites nominations for its special award Honouring 100 women to mark 100 years of Women’s Resistance in 2011. The purpose of this award is to further their mission of strengthening the unity and advancing the struggle of Asian rural women. This special award honours 100 women from Asia who have displayed creativity in rural life, courage, empowerment, resistance in the face of crisis and disasters and who have tirelessly worked to improve the quality of life in rural communities.
Asian rural women comprise the majority of world women’s population and, thus, play a critical role in the fight against imperialist globalization. The intensifying crisis brought by globalization warrants an intensified resistance. Towards this that ARWC commemorates the 100th year of the International Women’s Day in March 2011 where this special award will be launched.
