The Setsutaro Kobayashi Memorial Fund is offering research grant to nearly 32 young researchers on Humanities (Cultural Science) or Social Science from Asia-Pasific regions currently studying in Japan. The major aim of the grant program is to contribute to the mutual understanding for peaceful and harmonious development of nations or areas in the Asia-Pacific regions. The grant amount will be maximum 1,200,000 yen per grantee and covers transportation or accommodation for travel, purchase of reference books or archives related to the research activities in Japan and Asia-Pacific countries or regions, for one year from the date of the grant.
The student applying for the grant should submit a research proposal with original concept on research theme and method. Theme must show that it will promote mutual understanding among people and regions in Japan and Asia-Pacific. Also, the result of the research shall reflect in the thesis submitted for a doctorate and will play vital role on obtaining doctoral degree in near future. Screening these applications, the Grantee Screening Committee shall make final decision by 31 May 2014. A letter will be sent to the applicant and her/his supervising professor notifying the result of final decision and the in early July 2014, the applicant must attend the research grant guidance meeting and reception party. The grantee receives grant amount by the end of July 2014 via bank transfer.
Responsibilities-
- The grantee should conduct research and must submit a research report of approximately 30 pages (A4 size format) along with a copy of the account book to the fund office via the supervising professor within three months of the end of grant period.
- The grantee should be present for ‘Grantee Lecture’ on the research at Seminar arranged by Fuji Xerox, if invited. It depends on the research contents. Fuji Xerox reserve the right to open research results to the public.
- The grantee must promptly inform the fund office if s/he needs to reschedule research or leave Japan before completion of the research work or about any changes in contact address or telephone number in Japan.
After the grantee submits research report, the Setsutaro Kobayashi Memorial Fund will provide 30 copies of printed research report to the grantee. The reports will also be donated to Universities and research institutions in Japan and overseas. They will also be sent to grantee alumni members on their request.
