The Andrew E. Rice Award is given for Leadership and Innovation by young professional in International Development. In 2003 Rice Award was named as “The Truman Award”. It was renamed as “The Rice Award” in 2011 to honor the memory and contributions of one of its architect.
The Rice award will be presented at the Society for International Development World Congress from July 29 to 31st, 2011 in Washington D.C. The awardees will be awarded with cash prize of amount $1,000, and a one year honorary membership to SID-Washington.
Eligibility Criteria for the Rice Award:
The person whose age is from 18 to 30 years and having one year experience as a volunteer or paid young professional in International development and representing exceptional commitment to improving the lives of people in developing countries.
Criteria:
Rice award applicants will have to submit one-page, one-sided personal statement comprising of following criteria
1) Illustrate your contribution to advancing excellence in International development like what you did, why it was important and how you made your contribution.
2) Explain how you will continue and show commitment to international advancing development excellence.
Process for Nomination:
For nomination the candidate must complete the application form and may submit up to two one page letters of recommendation.
Procedure for Selection:
The Selection committee comprising of International development professionals will begin their review after accepting applications until 5:00 EST on April 29th, 2011.
